About Kenwood Car Stereo
Kenwood Car Stereo is one of the most popular car stereo brands in the world. They make a wide variety of products, including radios, amplifiers, subwoofers, and more. Their products are known for their high quality and durability. If you’re looking for a new car stereo, Kenwood is a great option to consider.
One of the most notable features of Kenwood car stereos is that they make a wide range of different products. This allows you to choose exactly what you want in your vehicle and ensures that there will be something for everyone.
The core product offered by Kenwood is their car radios. They make both AM/FM radios and CD players, which offer great sound quality and easy-to-use navigation systems.
If your vehicle’s stereo isn’t loud enough for your tastes, one of Kenwood’s amplifiers will get the job done quickly and easily. These amps are designed to solve common problems that occur when installing aftermarket stereos in older vehicles.
In addition to providing power to your car stereo, they can also be used to power subs or speakers. In addition to car stereos and accessories, Kenwood offers several other products that can be used in vehicles or elsewhere around the home.
Some examples of these include speakers (inside and out), marine audio systems, receivers/tuners/transmitters, navigation units, and more.
Tools You Will Need:
- Flathead screwdriver
- Phillips head screwdriver
- Pliers (optional).
It is worth mentioning that the process for removing a Kenwood car stereo does not require any special tools or skills, so you should be fine if you don’t have the exact tools mentioned above.
They will make life easier for you though! If you happen to own them, then it’s great, but if not, just continue reading and we’ll help you find alternatives. Before we get started with the actual removal of your Kenwood car stereo, let’s talk about some important tips that will ease this process up for you.
Things To Keep In Mind While Removing Your Stereo
Please remember to turn off your car’s engine before starting this process. Please also make sure you are in a safe area where there isn’t any traffic around, just to be on the safe side!
When removing the screws that hold the Kenwood car stereo into place, do not completely undo them. Instead, keep them slightly loose so you can easily slide the unit out of its location later on.
This is valuable information because if you have ever removed a radio before, you know how difficult it can be when all of these screws are tightened uptight!
Tip: If at any point during this process, you realize that your new Kenwood car stereo kit does not come with instructions, don’t fret! Well-written instructions aren’t included with most car stereo kits because it is assumed that you have done this before.
Okay, now that we have those two points out of the way, let’s begin with how to remove a Kenwood car stereo! By following these steps below, you should be able to completely remove your Kenwood unit in 5-10 minutes tops!
Step 1 – Locate The Screws:
The first thing you will want to do is locate all of the screws used for securing your Kenwood unit into place. They are usually located at the bottom or side of your stereo faceplate and can be easily seen from there.
To access them better, you will need to pull up your dashboard from its current position. Usually simply pulling upwards on your dashboard is enough to gain some needed space.
If you are having difficulties, try using a flat head screwdriver instead of pulling on it with your bare hands. A couple of tugs here and there should be all it takes to pull off the faceplate!
You should now clearly see the screws that hold the Kenwood unit in place! These are what we will be working with throughout this process.
Tip: Some people prefer using their fingers instead of tools when removing these screws (it’s okay if you do too!). The point is for them not to fall into your dashboard where they can’t be retrieved anymore!
Sometimes this makes life more difficult, but at the same time, it provides an extra sense of security because you can make sure all of the screws are properly screwed in before attempting to take your eye off them. Even if it is just holding them with your fingers instead of using tools, at least do something so you don’t lose any!
Step 2 – Slide The Stereo Out:
The next step will be to slide the Kenwood unit out of its housing. As previously mentioned, you will want to keep some of these screws loose for this purpose. Sometimes after removing the faceplate, these screws can come completely undone and that’s why we recommend keeping them slightly loose throughout this process.
Simply grab the bottom left corner of your stereo (while looking at it from above) and gently lift upwards on it while sliding it outwards towards yourself. After doing this, you will be able to remove the Kenwood unit without having to place it face down on a cloth or blanket. Be careful not to pull too hard though, because you don’t want to drop your entire stereo at this point!
Step 3 – Inspect Your New Stereo:
After removing your old Kenwood car stereo, you may now take a moment and inspect the new one that is provided with your car kit. If it comes with any form of installation guides or manuals, then be sure to read them carefully before continuing.
Tip: Some kits have these manuals in booklet form while others simply have them printed upon paper which can easily be found in a folder or envelope included in your package! Either way, they are usually helpful in some way when it comes to making sure the stereo is installed properly.
Step 4 – Prepare The New Stereo:
After inspecting your new Kenwood car stereo, you will want to get it prepared for installation into your vehicle. Sometimes this means that there are extra wires which need to be connected or even an antenna adapter that needs to be attached!
Make sure everything is in place before continuing on past this step because this may be our last chance. If you try installing the new stereo without preparing it first, then some of these items might not fit inside of your vehicle later on.
This step is crucial when it comes to having a successful installation process!
Tip: Here’s a helpful tip if you find yourself not knowing where certain wires go with the harness wire kit. Our wires are usually color-coded so that makes it quite easy! If you have a red wire with black writing on it, then chances are it goes into the red slot. It’s as simple as that!
Step 5 – Inspect Your Dashboard:
Now that the stereo has been inspected and prepared for installation, this means that now is your final chance to inspect your dashboard one last time before you start screwing everything back in place again.
Whenever we are installing something new inside of the car, we always take an extra few minutes at this step to make sure nothing was damaged during the process. Sometimes you can even find small things crawling around inside your dash or hear slight creaking sounds now and then which wouldn’t be present normally.
This is your final opportunity to ensure everything is in proper working order before putting the stereo back in.
Step 6 – Replace Old Hardware:
After you have confirmed that everything still works properly inside of your dashboard, it is time to get started with attaching all of the other hardware from earlier. Make sure when screwing these items back into place that they are screwed tight enough so you don’t need a wrench or pliers to remove them later on!
This makes for a much better-finished product and while you may have thought that certain screws were attached tightly enough at first, sometimes after removing and re-attaching things several times this can change.
Tip: A helpful tip would be to attach some wires (or else) loosely until you replace the stereo. That way after you put it all back together, you can see where everything goes and not have to guess how much slack is needed for each wire.
Step 7 – Re-Screw The Stereo Back into Place:
After screwing in all of the items that were removed earlier to get your old stereo out, now comes time to reattach the new one that was provided with your car kit purchase.
This means looking at both sides of your dash (if possible) and seeing which screws go where! Sometimes there are only certain holes available on one side so this might mean having very long wires hanging down or having extra connectors sticking out once it’s finally connected again.
Either way, just make sure everything is tight enough so nothing falls out during usage or even causes a short circuit.
Step 8 – Re-Program Your Touch Screen:
In most Kenwood car stereos, the touch screen will require reprogramming once everything is back in place and it has been connected to your vehicle again. There should be a certain code that needs to be entered into your stereo for this process to complete successfully.
This usually means holding down a certain set of buttons until you see a flashing light somewhere on the touch screen of the car stereo itself. If you can’t find any sort of guide for this, then just try making requests over the phone with customer service because they might need some extra information to get it working properly again!
Step 9 (Optional) – Use An Auxiliary Cable:
If you decide to use an auxiliary cable for your audio input, then now is the time to do so. Plugin the wire somewhere inside of your car before replacing everything into place again because there might not be enough room available when it’s all put together.
Step 10 – Put Everything Back Together:
The last step in this process is putting everything back together again after following these previous nine steps! This means re-attaching things like cup holders, mats, etc because they were removed to get to the stereo itself.
After that’s done, make sure nothing was left behind or forgotten about during this entire installation process before finally closing up your dashboard and beginning to test out your new stereo.
So there you have it. It’s not as hard as it may seem to remove a Kenwood car stereo. Now that you know how to remove a Kenwood car stereo, you can save yourself some money by doing it yourself.
