• Press and hold the “Power” button for 10 seconds. Or Press and hold both Volume – and Volume + at the same time for several seconds.

• The screen will display “Loading” and then go blank. After a few seconds, it will start cycling through all of its colors from top to bottom until it has gone through all of them at least once.

• Turn the ignition key from OFF to ACC as many times as it takes for the unit to go into test mode, then release the power button.

How To Install The Alpine ILX-W650 Car Stereo

The Ilx-W650 offers superior sound quality and many features that are not available on stock stereos. We will walk you through the entire installation process, so you can have your new system up and running in no time!

The Ilx-W650 comes with a pretty good wiring adapter harness. This means that you will only have to connect the main radio connections, speakers, and power cables. The rest is already taken care of in this harness. 

The harness contains speaker-level inputs, which can be used when you are not using an aftermarket amplifier. You do not want to use these wires though; they are very important which makes them hard to replace if they get broken! 

It is best practice to always disconnect your battery when working near it (radio disassembly, wiring, etc). Doing so will prevent any unwanted short circuits or sparks that could damage your exposed wires.

Step 1:

The first step is to remove the factory radio/faces/dash panels. This can be done by carefully prying them off with a flat head screwdriver. You are going to have to remove most of the panels around your stock stereo before you can pull it out enough for the new system to fit in. 

Once all of these panels are removed, then you can pull out your factory stereo equipment and disconnect the stock speakers from the harnesses that connect into each speaker directly.

The next step is to install your new stereo system! Simply feed all the wiring through the opening and connect everything. The Subwoofer output from your factory adapter harness needs to be plugged into the subwoofer input on your stereo harness (see diagram below). 

Use a flat head screwdriver or something similar to bend up each tab so it connects firmly when pressed down. 

Step 3:

Next, slide your receiver in place and secure it with the two screws provided. Connect all of the included wiring harnesses to their respective connections, and plug in your antenna cable. That’s pretty much all you need to do on this part!

Now that your new system is installed, it’s time to replace all of the used panels you took off before the installation process. This is where most people get confused when installing an aftermarket stereo. 

Step 4:

You can simply unplug your factory speakers from the stock adapter harnesses, and then plug them into just about any aftermarket speaker wire adapters that you would like (we recommend PAC). 

The head unit power cable needs to be connected to “ACC” on both sides, which signifies “Accessory” mode (the car turns on/off with the key). The speaker wires can be spliced into any Car Stereo Radio Wire Adapter (see Car Stereo Radio Wire Adapters section).

Last:

Once everything is connected, you can plug in your battery and turn on your car. You will need to press the “Source” button on your radio until you see “Remote” appear.
