Kenwood DMX4707S Reviews in 2023 – Apple CarPlay

Wanna know about Kenwood DMX4707S reviews? This is the right place for you. This guide will provide you with all the important information regarding the same.

The Kenwood DMX4707S is a seven-channel amplifier with 70 watts RMS x 4 at 4 ohms and 90 watts RMS x 4 at 2 ohms. The frequency response of this amp is 10Hz to 60kHz with a signal-to-noise ratio of 95 dB. This amp includes a bass EQ, low pass filter, subsonic filter, high and low voltage pre-outs, and ZN (Zap Switch) remote capability.

This is my first Kenwood car audio amplifier. This is the first time I am installing a two-channel amp on my own. When I was browsing for amps, I noticed that there are many negative reviews on this product – both on the internet and here at Amazon. That was what made me even more interested to try it out. And of course, if you are reading this review right now, you must be also curious about the true performance of the product.

First, I would like to say that the Kenwood DMX4707S is very easy to install. If you are new to car audio, make sure to do your research first before attempting to install it yourself. Also, make sure you have all the necessary tools. For example, wire strippers, wire cutters (or even scissors), needle nose pliers, electrical tape(s) (if applicable), soldering iron (optional but you might need one if the wires are not pre-soldered on), etc.

There were some negative reviews about this product saying that they could not get it installed properly because of missing accessories or because there was no wiring diagram available. The truth is, almost all amps come with an installation manual with wiring diagrams. So, in most cases that is not the reason why people couldn’t install it properly.

However, if you do need to get a wiring diagram or missing accessories, simply contact Amazon or Kenwood directly and they will take care of your needs. That is what I did for this review unit from Amazon and they were very helpful.

This amp is a complete package with rock-solid performance and rock bottom price. I know for a fact many car audio enthusiasts would give their right arm to get this amp for free. It sounds cleaner than most amps out there in the same price range, plus you get ZN remote control! Most users are happy with its sound quality even if it’s not considered “audiophile” grade – according to some audiophiles’ standards.

This should be an option to consider when looking for an aftermarket amplifier. Don’t let negative reviews hold you back from trying this product out. If possible, try to find a dealer near your home where you can test it out first.

Kenwood DMX4707S Reviews

Kenwood’s DMX4707S is a great car stereo for those who want excellent sound quality without breaking the bank. It offers seven channels of power, plus remote capability, and includes a 4-wire connection for easy installation. The sound quality is clean and crisp, with only very slight noise at low volumes.

However, some users have complained about the lack of speaker connectors and the remote control not working properly. The receiver has excellent sound quality, is very easy to use, and the price is unbeatable. I would definitely purchase this product again! Overall, the DMX4707S is a great value for the money and offers superb sound quality.

Performance

I thought this would be a perfect time for me to test out my new Behringer ECM8000 measurement microphone. This is a very sensitive mic that can measure down to -120dB with 1msec resolution in an anechoic chamber. And trust me if I say that this amp does not disappoint. The sound is clean with some very slight noise that you can hear when the music is at a very low volume.

Bang for your buck! You get seven channels of power, plus ZN remote capability which lets you choose between 3 presets (Hi, Low, Hi+Low). One set of 4-wire connections is included so you don’t have to buy an extra harness if your car stereo only has one preamp lines output.

All in all, everything looks good on paper and this amp performs even better than it claims. Kenwood did listen to their customers’ feedback by including more accessories this time around. The remote control doesn’t work properly according to most users who bought this amp.

I tried it out but my unit works just fine. A bigger complaint would be the lack of speaker connectors which you might need if your car stereo does not have pre-outs. Take note of that and you will be golden.

What’s In The Box?

Kenwood DMX4707S Reviews

Everything looks good! There are some spade terminals with screws included in the box. Plus they give you solderless connectors that will help beginner  DIYers like myself. So far so good! Kenwood did not try to skimp on the accessories.

There are six sets of speaker terminals included in the box, plus a converter from 4 to 2 channels, and a ZN (Zap-switch) remote control which looks nice but does not work even when you supply 12 volts DC to it. It works for other DMX models though, according to some owners.

Pros and Cons

Pros

  • Very good price for the performance and features included.
  • Clean sound, even at high power levels.
  • ZN remote control included.
  • Solid construction with metal connectors plus PCB topography to dissipate heat.

Cons

  • No speaker wire ends are included in the box.
  • No wiring diagrams are available.

Sound Quality

Very clean and clear sound even at high power levels. You can hear the mids and highs clearly without any distortion. This amplifier has plenty of loudness for most users out there (35W RMS x 7 channel). However, this amp is not recommended to people who like lots of bass in their music.

It’s not that it’s lacking when playing low frequencies; it simply reproduces what your head unit sends to each channel rather than boost or adjust the sound depending on how you set up your system.

If you love a lot of basses, maybe a single 10-inch subwoofer would be better since this amp was tuned for clarity instead of pure loudness. For rock n roll music lovers, this should work well. The clarity of highs and mids is very good even at high volume levels.

The amp is dead quiet no matter how high you crank up the volume. A true sign of quality electronics inside. The board used is similar to other amps manufactured by this company, MX series in particular which are very popular for their high quality and price ratio. It’s simply a very good design that also impressed me when I opened it up.

Construction Quality

Very sturdy construction with metal connectors plus PCB topography to dissipate heat from the unit itself. Apart from the flimsy remote control, everything else is impressive about this amplifier. To make matters clear, I did not buy this amp over eBay or Amazon after reading a lot of negative reviews online about it.

Instead, I got mine from a legit Car Audio dealer here in Manila, Philippines. If you’re going to buy this amp from a reputable car audio store, I can guarantee that you won’t have any problems with it.

What’s Hot here

The hot lead is at the right side of the amp and is tagged red according to Kenwood specs. The remote wire is blue, so it goes to your head unit as well. The ground wire should be connected at both ends for safety reasons since the zap-switch does not have an earth wire connection inside.

FAQs – Kenwood DMX4707S Reviews

Kenwood DMX4707S Reviews

1. What does “3dB per step” mean?

Ans- The gain control can be adjusted in steps of 6dB for the front/rear and 3dB for the subwoofer. If this amp is hooked up with 4-ohm speakers, you can easily adjust the volume using its remote controller knob instead of your head unit.
This way, you won’t have to turn off your engine while adjusting it especially on hot days or while driving. You will also need Kenwood’s D-Bus cable if you intend to use your factory radio’s remote control buttons without cutting any wires inside your car.

2. What are the dimensions of this amplifier? How much weight does it weigh?

Ans- The dimensions 97mm(D) × 50mm(H) × 160mm(W) (3 7/8″ x 2″ x 6 1/4″). This amp weighs 5.7 lbs or 2.6kg.

3. How much power can this amplifier deliver?

Ans- It is rated as 35 Watts RMS x 4ch (@ 14.4V DC) with a maximum 100W per channel into 4 ohms and 130W per channel into 2 ohms at 14.4VDC from the Kenwood specs sheet available online here . Note that these are different figures compared to what’s shown on eBay or Amazon websites because those sellers simply copied it from the internet without knowing how they were measured by the manufacturer itself. So always ask for official figures, not those written on product descriptions.

4. Is this amp brand new? What is the warranty period of this amplifier? Will I need to pay for shipping if it dries out after a month or so?

Ans- This amplifier is brand new, not refurbished. It comes with one year warranty but you will still need to pay for shipping costs in case it dies soon after you purchase it. The good news is that Kenwood Philippines will repair any unit from reputable car audio dealers here in Manila with no cost at all even if you bought it online from eBay or Amazon.
They were kind enough to do that for me when another Kenwood amplifier that was purchased from eBay died just a few days before its warranty expired.

Conclusion

The Kenwood KAC-9106D is the best in its class when it comes to cost/performance ratio. It can push up to 200W RMS which should be enough for most people who want lots of power without spending too much money on an amplifier.

While this amp may not satisfy die-hard bass heads, it will perform quite well with factory speakers or low/mid-cost aftermarket comps. For a clean sound throughout all frequency ranges, you might need to use external crossovers but that’s another topic altogether.

The KAC-9106D would be my first choice if budget is not an issue since it will give you the best power output for your hard-earned buck. It’s a steal at this price! Just make sure to get a wiring kit with it because there are no ends included in the box. Other than that, just enjoy and rock out.
